Everton fans were given a glimpse of what to expect at their new Bramley-Moore Dock stadium on Monday’s test event, and it wasn’t just the football that was hitting the headlines—it was the food.

As the Toffees bid farewell to Goodison Park at the end of this season, their new Everton Stadium that will cost £800 million is not just a world-class stadium for Premier League football but also an improvement in matchday dining.

The club is hosting a series of trials at the new ground, commencing with Under-18s’ friendly game against Wigan’s youth. Although the actual game had moments, including the goal by Wigan’s Harrison Rimmer who clearly enjoyed scoring it a tad too much—the food was really the star.

Everton fans got a taste of the future with a lineup of top-tier food options at Monday’s Bramley-Moore Dock test event.
Several items on the menu were a fan favorite, including the loaded sausage roll.
Tickets for the soft launch were priced at £5 for adults and £2.50 for concessions.

A Premier League-Worthy Menu

Instagram-worthy stadium grub has been carefully prepared by Michelin-trained culinary director Adam Bateman, and the opening menu wasn’t a letdown. The fixtures featured:

  • Salt & Pepper Chicken Tenders ( £9.50)
  • Korean Sticky Chicken ( £10.50)
  • Plant-Based Korean Sticky Bowl (£10.50)
  • ‘The Toffee’ Doughnut ( £3.50)
Or, for the more voracious crowds, there was the bacon, egg, and cheese-stuffed sausage roll for a decadent and calorie-laden treat for an evening on those chilly Merseyside nights.

A Big Improvement from Goodison

The grub even drew the attention of Footy Scran, a popular social media account that trolls stadium grub, who likened the new grub to the less. primitive stuff at Goodison Park. Among the viral snaps in 2023 was that of a £4.50 cheeseburger which was anything but appealing.

It left supporters impressed during the test match. One of them on X stated, “Was tasty that.” Another called The Toffee doughnut remarked, “£3.50 and what a view.”

Everton Stadium Next?

Monday’s test match marked the start of the process of obtaining the stadium’s license, with additional test matches scheduled. The second test match will involve 25,000 supporters at an Under-21s friendly, and a third near-capacity game will follow later this season.

Everton aren’t able to stage competitive matches at the new stadium yet, but these matches will see every safety certificate completed before the big change.

Culinary director Adam Bateman aims to make the stadium’s food visually appealing and Instagram-worthy.

Excitement about the new home is growing, but there is no doubt there will be a lot of emotions when Everton play their final game at Goodison Park, marking the end of 134 years of history.

For the meantime, however, fans can look forward to a taste of the future—where the football (hopefully) will be as awe-inspiring as the cuisine.
