It’s a question many people have wondered🤔 about, especially after seeing paintings, movies, or illustrations of heaven filled with winged figures.
Will humans actually have wings in heaven?
Let’s look at it from the Bible 📖
What the Bible Says
The Bible never states that humans will receive wings🪽 in heaven. Wings are specifically associated with angels, not people.
Scriptures like Isaiah 6:2 and Ezekiel 1:6 describe angels with wings, but when the Bible talks about redeemed humans in heaven, wings are never mentioned.
Instead, the Bible teaches that believers will receive glorified bodies, not angelic ones.
1 Corinthians 15:42–44 explains that our earthly bodies will be transformed into imperishable, glorious, and powerful bodies – designed for eternity.
Humans Are Not Angels
A common misconception is that people become angels after death. Biblically, this is not true. Humans and angels are entirely different creations with different purposes.
Hebrews 2:6–7 shows that humans are made “a little lower than the angels” for now, not turned into them later.
Jesus Himself said that in the resurrection, people will be “like the angels” in the sense that they will no longer die (Matthew 22:30), but He did not say humans would become angels or gain wings.
Why Wings Are Symbolic
In Scripture, wings often symbolize strength, protection, and swiftness, not physical anatomy.
Verses like Isaiah 40:31 (“They will soar on wings like eagles”) use wings metaphorically to describe renewed strength from God, not a physical transformation.
Artists and culture have often taken these symbols literally, which explains why winged humans appear so often in religious art.
What Will We Have Instead?
Rather than wings, believers are promised something even greater:
-
Perfect, resurrected bodies
-
Freedom from pain, sickness, and death
-
The ability to live eternally in God’s presence
-
Glory beyond human imagination (1 Corinthians 2:9)
If wings were necessary, God would provide them—but heaven is not limited by physical laws the way earth is.
The Bigger Truth
The real hope of heaven isn’t about wings or appearance.
It’s about being fully restored, living forever with God, and experiencing joy, peace, and purpose without sin or suffering.
So, will humans have wings🪽 in heaven?
The Bible suggests no, but what God has prepared is far better than anything wings could offer.
