But since sexual immorality is occurring, each man should have sexual relations with his own wife, and each woman with her own husband.

DAILY DEVOTION

13th August, 2025

Solomon challenges us to see life in the eyes of God’s timing and cycles. He uses the metaphor of nature, clouds full of rain to describe the inevitability of certain things happening. Like clouds will eventually burst and flow, seasons of preparation and pressure in life will finally give way to release and blessing.

But the twist is, the process isn’t always comfortable. Before the rain, there is heaviness in the atmosphere. The air is dense. The light weakens. Sometimes the wind blows, and we must get ready for what is coming. Likewise, before God’s blessings or breakthroughs come through, we typically experience heaviness, a time when everything feels uncertain, stretched thin, and even unbearable.

We live in a culture that avoids discomfort at all costs, so when “clouds” threaten over our lives, economic struggle, sickness, marital tension, unanswered prayers. We instantly assume something has gone wrong. But Ecclesiastes 11:3 says that full clouds don’t represent failure; they are a sign of water soon to be let out.

Consider the life of Joseph. The “cloud” around him was treachery by his brothers, years of wrongful slavery, and unjust imprisonment. But each affliction expanded the cloud of his fate until the day it broke out wide and he stepped into the role God had designed for him (Genesis 41). David endured the “cloud” of fleeing from Saul, cave living, and abandonment, but those years conditioned his heart to be a king after God’s heart. Even Jesus, on the night before the cross, beheld the darkest sky of all. But His suffering was the cloud full of the rain of salvation, shed out for the world.

Sometimes that very weight that’s making you feel like you’re sinking is evidence that God is filling your “cloud” with something worthwhile. Your tears, your prayers, your perseverance—these are drops accumulating in the sky of your life. And when God’s timing reaches its fullness, the blessing will strike suddenly and in abundance.

So what do you do when waiting for the clouds to rain? You are firm on what is to come. You keep praying even if the heavens are silent. You trust that God has the exact time the first drop should drop. And you hold on to the fact that when the clouds are full, the rain does not trickle—it bursts.

PRAYER

Lord, I confess that when my life is heavy, I want quick relief. But You are attempting to school me in trusting the process, trusting that clouds full of rain will not remain in the sky. Give me patience to wait, faith to believe, and thanksgiving to accept when the blessings come. Use my struggles to fashion me, not break me. In Jesus’ name, Amen
