Arsenal have made Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike a target as they look to strengthen their attacking options ahead of the summer transfer window. The Gunners have reportedly made an enquiry for the 22-year-old, who has also been pursued by a number of leading clubs.

Mikel Arteta’s side had initially targeted Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak as their number one choice. However, Newcastle’s high £150 million valuation of the Sweden international has led Arsenal to consider alternatives. Ekitike is now a serious candidate to bolster their attack.

Competition for Ekitike’s Signature

Arsenal are among several Premier League clubs monitoring Ekitike, including Liverpool, Manchester United, and Newcastle, according to The Sun. Bayern Munich have also joined the chase for the prolific striker, who has been in phenomenal form this season.

Frankfurt, aware that there is growing interest in their striker, are reportedly demanding a transfer fee in the range of £60 million. They are anticipating a sale in the upcoming transfer window, based on the player’s excellent performances.

Ekitike’s Rise in the Bundesliga

Ekitike initially joined Eintracht Frankfurt on loan from Paris Saint-Germain last February prior to putting pen to paper permanently for €16.5 million (£13.9 million) last summer. He has since thrived in the Bundesliga, scoring 19 goals this season and establishing himself as a key player at the club.

His recent performances for his nation have further boosted his reputation. During the international break, Ekitike showed his class by netting a hat-trick in France Under-21s’ 5-3 victory against England, again cementing his status as one of Europe’s most promising young strikers.

Ekitike’s Response to Former Teammate’s Transfer

In a recent interview, Ekitike spoke about his former Frankfurt teammate Omar Marmoush, who secured a £59 million move to Manchester City in January. While wishing Marmoush all the best, Ekitike hinted at his own desires to play at the highest level.

‘I would not say I miss him because we have other players who are also very, very good,’ said Ekitike. ‘I think he did everything he had to do here. I am glad to see him playing in England now. I try to watch his games whenever I can, especially when he is playing.’

Will Arsenal Seal the Deal?

With Arsenal keen to bolster their attacking options and Frankfurt seemingly prepared to part ways with Ekitike, there could be traction in the move in the weeks ahead. However, with other top-class clubs also in pursuit, the Gunners will have to act fast if they’re to secure the French forward’s signature.

As the transfer window approaches, Arsenal fans will be eager to see if Ekitike will be the next to join Arteta’s squad as they gear up to battle for top honors next season.
