As the team continues to expand, Nen Creative is looking for talented creative professionals who are passionate about producing exceptional work.
About the Role
Nen Creative is seeking an experienced and technically skilled Cinematographer to join its team in the San Francisco Bay Area.
This position is designed for someone who takes cinematography seriously as both a technical discipline and a creative craft.
The ideal candidate understands more than how to produce an attractive image – they understand the technical and artistic decisions that make an image effective.
You will be expected to confidently manage camera, lighting, and grip requirements across different types of productions.
Projects may range from fast-moving founder interviews and talking-head shoots to highly produced commercials, brand films, and other creative campaigns.
Working closely with directors, producers, and the wider creative team, you will help establish the visual direction of each production and translate that vision into strong imagery on set.
Your involvement may also continue into post-production, including footage management, DaVinci Resolve project preparation, color grading, and final delivery.
This is a practical, hands-on position within a fast-paced agency environment.
Success requires adaptability, strong technical judgment, close attention to detail, and the ability to achieve premium visual results while working within real production constraints.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with directors, producers, and other creatives to establish the visual style and cinematographic approach for each project.
- Take ownership of camera, lighting, and grip setups for commercials, interviews, talking-head productions, brand films, and other video projects.
- Design effective production setups while considering available budgets, equipment, schedules, and locations.
- Find creative ways to maximize production value, knowing when additional resources are necessary and when existing tools can achieve the desired result.
- Manage footage after shoots, including properly offloading, organizing, and preparing media for post-production.
- Create and configure DaVinci Resolve projects using the appropriate technical settings and organizational structure.
- Perform color grading and prepare final exports from raw footage when required.
- Maintain organized projects throughout the production and post-production process.
- Learn and work effectively within Nen Creative’s existing production pipeline while identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and quality.
- Take on different production responsibilities when necessary based on the requirements of individual projects.
Qualifications and Experience
Candidates should be based in the San Francisco Bay Area, preferably within convenient reach of San Francisco. The role requires being physically present on set approximately 3–4 days per week.
Applicants should have a strong technical understanding of professional camera systems, lighting techniques, grip equipment, exposure, lenses, and image-making principles.
The ideal candidate understands not only how production tools operate but also how technical choices affect the final image.
A genuine interest in the finer details of cinematography is essential. This includes understanding concepts such as exposure index and dynamic-range latitude, lens characteristics, bokeh rendering, lens coatings, image falloff, and other technical and aesthetic factors that influence visual character.
Strong attention to detail is equally important. You should consistently look for opportunities to refine an image – whether that means adjusting a key light, introducing an edge light, flagging unwanted light, improving the background, or making other subtle changes that strengthen the shot.
The successful candidate should also:
- Be resourceful and capable of producing high-quality results within realistic budget and production limitations.
- Maintain the same creative standard across different types of projects, from straightforward interviews to larger commercial productions.
- Be willing to learn and adapt to Nen Creative’s visual style, quality expectations, and production processes.
- Have practical experience with color grading and video editing in DaVinci Resolve.
- Have previous professional cinematography experience and a strong technical foundation.
- Learn quickly and respond effectively to creative or technical feedback.
- Be comfortable working in an agency environment where production schedules and priorities may occasionally change.
- Be available for occasional after-hours communication when production requirements demand it.
- Have access to a car for transportation to shoots and production locations.
