About the Role

Honor Technology is seeking a Director of Safety to develop, implement, and scale safety strategies for its distributed in-home care workforce.

This leader will be responsible for reducing workplace injuries and their severity, controlling workers’ compensation costs, and creating a safer environment for both clients and Care Professionals (CPs).

The role requires a data-driven approach to identifying risk patterns within large, complex, and sometimes incomplete datasets.

You will use these insights to develop scalable, technology-driven solutions that prevent incidents and support the company’s expansion into new markets and service lines.

You will also oversee the entire workers’ compensation lifecycle, building sustainable programs that improve claims management and control costs.

Working closely with Product and Engineering, you will help develop tools and automated systems that make safety a scalable, proactive business advantage rather than a manual, reactive process.

The ideal candidate has experience building and expanding safety, risk management, or trust and safety programs within a fast-growing, technology-enabled organization with a distributed workforce.

You should be comfortable investigating individual incidents while designing company-wide strategies that deliver measurable results.

The successful candidate will challenge conventional approaches, identify the interventions that most effectively reduce injuries and costs, develop compelling business cases for investment, and influence teams across the organization without relying on direct reporting relationships.

You must also be able to translate complex data into clear, credible insights that support executive decision-making.

This is a fully remote position open to candidates anywhere in the United States. The role includes managing a remote team, making strong written communication, effective virtual coaching, and distributed leadership essential.

Key Responsibilities

Safety Program Leadership

  • Lead the development and execution of Honor’s safety operating model, balancing immediate corrective actions with long-term structural improvements that support business growth.
  • Design scalable solutions to common in-home care hazards, including environmental risks, mobility challenges, infection prevention, and client behavior.
  • Collaborate with Product and Engineering to develop technology, automation, and product features that reduce risk, presenting clear business cases for the required investments.
  • Establish initiatives that strengthen safety awareness and accountability among Care Professionals and headquarters employees.

Workers’ Compensation and Incident Management

  • Take end-to-end ownership of workers’ compensation strategy, claims management, and cost-reduction outcomes.
  • Analyze claims data to identify opportunities to reduce costs and resolution times, implementing sustainable programs and tools that improve case management at scale.
  • Manage external vendors and assess alternative service models to improve efficiency and outcomes.
  • Lead incident investigations and root-cause analyses, translating findings into corrective actions that prevent similar incidents from recurring.
  • Maintain accurate incident documentation and provide reliable reports to leadership.
  • Forecast claims reserves, prepare forward-looking budgets, and communicate the financial implications of workers’ compensation performance to executives.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA requirements and applicable state-specific home care regulations.

Data, Performance, and Safety Culture

  • Define and monitor key safety and claims performance metrics to improve visibility, identify emerging risks, and support early intervention.
  • Translate complex, incomplete, or inconsistent data into actionable insights, recommendations, and investment proposals that executives can readily understand.
  • Build alignment and drive results across distributed teams, including franchise operators, field leaders, Product, and Engineering, even when those teams do not report directly to you.

Leadership Principles

Balance Incremental and Transformational Change

Recognize when immediate corrective action is sufficient and when broader changes to safety or claims management are necessary.

Develop sustainable, technology-enabled solutions and remain open to unconventional approaches when traditional methods cannot deliver lasting results.

Think Systemically

Understand how safety initiatives affect clients, Care Professionals, franchise operators, and teams across different markets.

Develop integrated solutions that use technology to address underlying risks rather than relying on isolated fixes.

Focus resources on the interventions that demonstrably reduce injuries and workers’ compensation costs.

Fly High and Dive Deep

Analyze large, complex datasets to uncover meaningful risk indicators and trends. Know when to investigate an individual claim or incident in detail and when to step back to evaluate performance across the entire organization. Investigate discrepancies when data does not align with feedback from frontline teams.

Drive Impact

Take accountability for measurable improvements in workplace safety and workers’ compensation performance.

Success will be evaluated by reductions in injury frequency, injury severity, and claims-related costs—not simply by the number of activities completed. Communicate findings effectively and influence cross-functional teams to achieve meaningful results.

Required Qualifications

  • At least eight years of experience in safety, risk management, trust and safety, or operations leadership, with demonstrated success scaling programs within a fast-growing, technology-enabled organization with a distributed workforce.
  • Experience in sectors such as delivery, rideshare, e-commerce fulfillment, logistics, or on-demand services is particularly relevant.
  • Strong analytical capabilities, including SQL, data analysis, and dashboard development, with experience using large and imperfect datasets to identify risks, determine root causes, and prioritize investments.
  • Proven ability to leverage technology and automation to improve safety and operational performance rather than relying exclusively on manual processes or additional staffing.
  • End-to-end workers’ compensation experience, including claims management, return-to-work planning, and provider relationships, or comparable experience managing insurance and risk claims.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop business cases for investment, communicate complex data clearly, and secure support from senior leadership.
  • Experience building and leading remote teams, including recruiting, developing, and retaining employees as the organization grows.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders ranging from frontline employees to senior executives.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA requirements and related regulatory frameworks, or the ability to quickly develop expertise in an adjacent regulated environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in safety, risk management, trust and safety, or operations at a high-growth, technology-enabled company such as DoorDash, Amazon, Chewy, Instacart, Uber, Lyft, or a comparable organization.
  • Experience collaborating with Product and Engineering teams to launch tools, automation, or product features that reduce risk at scale.
  • Familiarity with modern safety management and claims management software, data platforms, and business intelligence tools.
  • Experience scaling teams during periods of significant organizational growth, including developing future leaders and establishing a strong leadership pipeline.
