About the Role

Babel Audio are seeking highly detail-oriented individuals with experience in transcription, linguistics, journalism, writing, editing, subtitling, or captioning, particularly in English.

As an Audio Transcription and Annotation Specialist, you will be responsible for transcribing and labeling audio recordings featuring diverse speaking styles, vocal expressions, and emotional tones.

In addition to producing accurate transcripts, you will identify and tag important speech characteristics and conversational elements that help improve the development of advanced AI speech technologies.

This is a fully remote freelance opportunity offering complete flexibility, allowing you to choose when you work and how many hours you want to commit.

About You

• Excellent command of English, with strong grammar, listening, and proofreading abilities.
• Previous experience in at least one of these areas: transcription, linguistics, journalism, writing, editing, subtitling, or captioning.
• Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to understand and follow detailed project guidelines.
• Access to a reliable computer and a stable internet connection.
• Ability to work independently while consistently meeting established quality standards.

Compensation

$90 per hour of transcribed audio.

Additional incentives may be offered based on individual performance.

Key Responsibilities

• Review, edit, and improve transcripts to ensure correct grammar, punctuation, formatting, and overall accuracy.
• Identify and annotate different speaking styles, vocal expressions, and paralinguistic features.
• Identify, report, and document transcription challenges, including unclear speech, inaudible sections, and incorrectly interpreted words.
• Maintain high-quality standards across all assigned transcription and annotation tasks.

Technical Requirements

• A laptop or desktop computer is required. Tablets and mobile phones are not supported.
• Headphones or earphones for accurate and uninterrupted audio listening.
