Insurance Examiner at Vermont
The Vermont Department of Financial Regulation is seeking a motivated, organized, and professional individual to join its Insurance Division as an Insurance Examiner II.
The ideal candidate will have a strong financial background, excellent analytical and critical-thinking abilities, effective communication skills, sound time-management practices, and a dependable, professional approach to work.
Position Overview
Under moderate supervision, the Insurance Examiner II assists with financial examinations and ongoing risk assessments of traditional insurance companies.
Using a risk-based examination approach, the individual evaluates insurers’ business operations, internal controls, corporate governance, strategic planning, financial reporting, and regulatory compliance to help ensure they remain financially sound and meet their obligations under applicable laws and regulations.
The position also involves continuous off-site monitoring of insurance companies through the review of quarterly financial statements and other regulatory filings.
This process helps identify financial trends, solvency concerns, and potential risks that could affect an insurer’s ability to meet its commitments.
Additional responsibilities include examining and evaluating the financial and operational condition of licensed insurance companies, collecting and analyzing financial data, preparing examination workpapers and reports, and assisting senior examiners in identifying irregularities or areas of concern.
The successful candidate will develop expertise in insurance accounting, regulatory standards, and examination procedures while contributing to consumer protection and the stability of the insurance industry.
This role requires strong analytical judgment, attention to detail, and a solid understanding of financial reporting, insurance accounting principles, regulatory frameworks, and examination practices.
