Job Summary

Velocity Prime Supermarket is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Procurement Manager to oversee its procurement operations and ensure the timely and cost-effective sourcing of goods and services.

The successful candidate will manage the complete procurement process, from identifying suitable suppliers and requesting quotations to negotiating prices, issuing purchase orders, and ensuring that purchased items are delivered according to agreed timelines and specifications.

The Procurement Manager will regularly evaluate supplier performance, maintain accurate procurement records, monitor purchasing costs, and work closely with the operations and finance teams to ensure procurement activities support the supermarket’s operational requirements and financial objectives.

The role also involves identifying reliable suppliers, monitoring market prices and trends, reducing procurement risks, improving purchasing procedures, and ensuring that all procurement activities comply with established company policies and applicable standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage the day-to-day procurement and sourcing activities of the supermarket.
• Identify, assess, and maintain relationships with reliable suppliers and vendors.
• Request, review, and compare quotations to ensure competitive pricing and value for money.
• Negotiate prices, payment terms, delivery schedules, and other commercial terms with suppliers.
• Prepare and manage purchase orders while ensuring accurate documentation of procurement transactions.
• Monitor supplier performance, product quality, pricing, and delivery timelines.
• Collaborate with operations, finance, and other relevant departments to determine purchasing requirements.
• Monitor market trends and identify opportunities for cost savings and improved supplier arrangements.
• Maintain accurate procurement, supplier, expenditure, and purchasing records.
• Identify and mitigate potential supply chain and procurement risks.
• Continuously review and improve procurement processes to increase efficiency and control costs.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Finance, or a related discipline is preferred.
• Proven experience in procurement, purchasing, or supply chain management within the FMCG sector.
• Previous experience working in the procurement department of a supermarket is required.
• Strong procurement and supplier evaluation skills, with the ability to assess vendors and make cost-effective purchasing decisions.
• Good knowledge of local markets and reliable sources for supermarket and FMCG products.
• Strong negotiation skills with the ability to secure competitive prices and favorable supplier terms.
• Excellent analytical skills for comparing quotations, monitoring expenditure, evaluating purchasing data, and supporting informed procurement decisions.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills for maintaining productive relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
• Proficiency in spreadsheets, procurement systems, and general office productivity tools.
• Strong organizational and time-management abilities with excellent attention to detail.
• High level of integrity and the ability to work independently while meeting deadlines in an on-site environment.
