In fintech, great design is about much more than appearance. When people are trusting a platform with their money, every interaction needs to feel clear, secure, intuitive, and dependable.

Axra is looking for an experienced Senior Product Designer who understands this responsibility and can create digital experiences that combine strong visual design with usability and trust.

You’ll take a leading design role across Axra’s core products, including its mobile application and web dashboard. You’ll own the complete design process, from understanding users and identifying problems to prototyping, final interface design, developer handoff, and reviewing how the finished experience performs in production.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take end-to-end ownership of product design across Axra’s mobile app and web platform.
  • Design new product experiences while continuously improving existing journeys and interfaces.
  • Conduct user interviews and research to uncover genuine customer needs, behaviors, frustrations, and opportunities.
  • Translate research findings into practical product and design decisions.
  • Develop and maintain Axra’s design system across mobile and web in close collaboration with frontend engineers.
  • Produce polished, high-fidelity interfaces and interactive prototypes for usability testing and engineering implementation.
  • Work closely with developers throughout implementation to ensure the finished product maintains the intended quality and user experience.
  • Collaborate with the marketing team on landing pages and maintain consistency between Axra’s product experience and wider brand identity.
  • Identify usability problems and recommend practical improvements.
  • Advocate for customers and confidently challenge decisions that could negatively affect the user experience.
  • Balance customer needs, business objectives, technical limitations, and visual quality when making design decisions.

Requirements

The ideal candidate should have:

  • 4+ years of professional product-design experience, preferably within a consumer-facing technology company.
  • A strong portfolio demonstrating both excellent visual design and thoughtful UX problem-solving.
  • Advanced proficiency with modern product-design tools and workflows.
  • Strong understanding of auto layout, variables, component architecture, design systems, and interactive prototyping.
  • Experience designing mobile-first digital products.
  • Experience working with complex user journeys or transactional workflows.
  • Ability to explain design decisions based on user behavior, research findings, and measurable business outcomes, rather than aesthetics alone.
  • Strong understanding of interaction design, information hierarchy, usability, and visual communication.
  • Ability to work independently and take significant ownership within a small design team.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills when working with engineering, product, and marketing teams.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining design quality through implementation.

Nice to Have

Additional advantages include:

  • Previous experience designing products within banking, fintech, payments, remittance, cryptocurrency, insurance, or other financial services.
  • Familiarity with WCAG 2.1 accessibility standards and accessible product-design practices.
  • Motion-design experience, particularly creating thoughtful micro-interactions and interface animations.
  • Previous professional experience working in or designing digital products for African markets.

Ideal Candidate

Axra is looking for someone who can combine visual creativity with practical product thinking. You should be comfortable taking ownership, conducting research, making informed design decisions, collaborating directly with engineers, and defending the needs of users when necessary.

Most importantly, you should understand that successful fintech design must make complicated financial interactions feel simple, transparent, secure, and trustworthy.
