Job Overview

GitHub is seeking an experienced Product Manager to improve the tools and experiences developers rely on every day, from pull requests and issues to notifications and emerging AI-powered features.

You will help make GitHub more intuitive, efficient, and productive for millions of developers and open-source maintainers.

The ideal candidate has a strong background in product management, experience launching new products and achieving product-market fit, and a keen interest in AI or developer-focused technologies.

You should be technically proficient or design-oriented, hands-on, and detail-focused.

In this role, you will work closely with engineering, design, and marketing teams to research, develop, and launch innovative products.

You will also collaborate with senior leaders and cross-functional stakeholders to establish strategic priorities, align teams around shared objectives, and create new ways for people and AI agents to work together effectively.

Key Responsibilities

Customer and Market Analysis

• Identify and prioritize developer needs through customer feedback, direct engagement, and market research.
• Recognize potential challenges and remove barriers that could disrupt developer workflows.

Product Strategy and Definition

• Develop and guide GitHub’s multi-model AI strategy and platform roadmap.
• Influence senior stakeholders across GitHub and Microsoft while providing strategic product leadership.

Product Development and Innovation

• Collaborate with AI providers, including OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, and emerging companies, to assess and integrate advanced AI models.
• Work with applied science teams to transform research and emerging technologies into scalable platform features.

Product Launch and Market Adoption

• Lead growth experiments and adoption initiatives to test product ideas, validate strategic decisions, and expand product usage.
• Communicate the product vision through executive presentations, blog posts, and developer community channels.

Performance Measurement and Continuous Improvement

• Use product analytics, customer feedback, and market insights to guide investment decisions.
• Establish data-driven processes to measure product performance, evaluate impact, and continuously improve the platform.

Required Qualifications

• At least 5 years of experience in product management, service management, project or program management, software development, product design, or a related field.

  Alternatively, candidates may qualify with:

  • A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and at least 3 years of related professional experience; or
  • Equivalent practical experience.
• At least 3 years of experience working with AI/ML products, developer tools, or new product development.
• At least 3 years of experience preparing and delivering product roadmap updates and status reports.
• Proven experience collaborating across teams and organizational boundaries to solve complex technical challenges.

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with developer tools, software development processes, and common developer workflows.
• Ability to translate technical requirements and workflow challenges into clear product features and roadmap priorities.

Salary and Compensation

Annual base salary: $124,000–$329,200 USD

The salary range applies to positions based throughout the United States. Actual compensation will depend on factors such as work location, relevant experience, professional knowledge, skills, and qualifications.

Eligible employees may also receive additional benefits and compensation, including annual bonuses and stock awards, based on their role and individual impact.

Certain positions may offer sales incentives depending on the applicable compensation plan.
