Senior Content & Video Manager
Wild Alaskan Company is committed to helping accelerate the transition toward sustainable food systems by strengthening the connection between people, wild seafood, and the environment.
The company delivers sustainably sourced, wild-caught seafood directly to households throughout the United States. Combining three generations of experience in Alaska’s fishing industry with a purpose-built eCommerce platform, Wild Alaskan Company focuses on delivering high-quality seafood and an excellent customer experience.
The company operates in a fully remote environment that is collaborative, challenging, fast-moving, and focused on its mission.
About the Role
Wild Alaskan Company is seeking a Senior Content & Video Manager to develop and lead a compelling long-form video channel built around food, Alaska, fishing communities, and human stories.
This is not simply a video-production position. The company is looking for an experienced storyteller who can discover powerful ideas, research subjects deeply, develop original concepts, and transform those ideas into memorable films and series.
A significant portion of the role will involve finding and developing stories rather than spending every day handling production logistics. However, the successful candidate must understand the entire production process and be capable of overseeing projects from initial concept through final delivery.
The Senior Content & Video Manager will report to the VP of Creative and Brand and will also manage members of the content team.
Key Responsibilities
Story Discovery & Development
Build a strong and continuous pipeline of original stories centered around Alaska, commercial fishing, food, culinary culture, and the people connected to these worlds.
Potential stories could explore the experiences of commercial fishing families, younger generations entering Alaska’s fishing industry, chefs experimenting with seafood techniques, or other compelling subjects connected to the company’s mission.
You will research potential ideas, develop a clear creative vision, explain why each story matters to the audience and brand, and determine which concepts deserve further investment.
Research & Pre-Interviews
Conduct extensive research before production begins.
Speak with potential subjects, learn their histories, understand their experiences and vocabulary, and identify the details that can transform an ordinary interview into a meaningful story.
The goal is to arrive at every production with a strong understanding of the subject and thoughtful questions capable of revealing something audiences have not heard before.
Production Leadership
Take responsibility for setting productions up for success from beginning to end.
Responsibilities may include:
- Selecting appropriate production crews.
- Working with producers and external production partners.
- Developing project scopes and production plans.
- Managing schedules and budgets.
- Planning shoots around fishing seasons, tides, weather, and other real-world conditions.
- Providing creative direction during production.
- Guiding projects through editing and post-production.
- Ensuring finished content is delivered on schedule.
You will determine when a project requires a complete production crew and when a smaller, more flexible production approach is more appropriate.
Long-Form Video Channel Development
Lead the development of the company’s long-form video presence, particularly on YouTube.
Rather than simply publishing individual videos, you will develop an intentional programming strategy that includes:
- Series concepts and architecture.
- Release schedules.
- Video titles and thumbnails.
- Audience-development strategies.
- Content distribution.
- Channel growth and performance.
You will oversee the Social Media Manager and be accountable for ensuring the channel successfully communicates the Wild Alaskan brand while building a loyal audience.
Content Team Management
Manage an Editorial Content Producer and Social Media Manager.
Provide clear creative direction, remove obstacles that prevent team members from doing their best work, guide production and distribution strategies, and support their professional development.
The position requires genuine people-management experience and the ability to build a strong creative team.
Performance-Focused Creative Direction
Lead creative development and review across long-form videos as well as paid advertising content.
Bring strong judgment to storytelling, opening hooks, pacing, audience retention, engagement, and conversion.
Performance data should be used to improve creative decisions without sacrificing originality or the quality of the storytelling.
Culinary & Seafood Storytelling
Approximately half of the company’s content has a culinary or seafood focus.
The successful candidate must understand how to make food visually appealing while developing content that is both useful and inspiring.
You will work with chefs and culinary personalities to create videos that hold viewers’ attention while celebrating seafood and the culture surrounding it.
Brand Stewardship
Help protect and strengthen the identity of Wild Alaskan Company.
The brand is rooted in respect for Alaska, wild-caught seafood, fishing communities, and the people responsible for bringing seafood from the ocean to the table.
Content should authentically celebrate these stories without unnecessary exaggeration.
What Success Looks Like
Success in this role means developing a long-form channel with sustainable audience growth, where viewers discover the company through one film and continue returning for future stories.
The company also expects:
- A deep pipeline of strong story opportunities.
- Consistently compelling and memorable video content.
- Strong audience and subscriber growth.
- Two direct reports producing exceptional work.
- Stories that authentically represent Alaska and its communities.
- Culinary content that makes audiences genuinely interested in the food.
- Emotional storytelling capable of building meaningful connections between viewers, people, place, and food.
Experience & Qualifications
Candidates should have:
- 7+ years of experience in content production, documentary filmmaking, branded films, or closely related creative work.
- A strong portfolio or reel demonstrating the ability to develop and deliver original projects.
- Experience interpreting creative performance data across organic and paid social channels.
- At least one strong character-driven project personally developed from initial idea through final delivery.
- Demonstrated experience directly managing employees, including performance reviews and professional development.
- Strong knowledge of both outdoor storytelling and food-related content.
- A solid understanding of YouTube and other long-form content platforms, including audience metrics and launch strategies.
- Extensive knowledge of the complete video-production process, including research, development, budgeting, crews, cameras, audio, editing, color, sound, post-production, and final delivery.
Travel Requirements
Candidates must be willing and able to travel frequently.
Travel is expected to account for approximately 30% of the position, with heavier travel requirements during the summer.
Assignments may range from productions in Alaska’s challenging weather and commercial fishing environments to culinary shoots and test kitchens.
Who This Role Is For
This position is designed for an experienced creative professional who generates and develops original ideas—not someone whose experience has primarily involved executing concepts created by others.
Wild Alaskan Company already works with strong production partners. The company is specifically looking for someone whose creative thinking, research, and storytelling instincts can become the foundation for new work.
Application Requirements
Candidates should include the following with their application:
A professional reel or portfolio: Submit a reel, a completed film, or links to three finished projects. For each project, briefly explain your contribution, including whether you developed the idea, directed, edited, or handled other major responsibilities.
One story-development example: Provide approximately one page describing a story you developed from the beginning. Explain how you discovered it, what you learned during research or pre-interviews, how those discoveries influenced your approach, and what you would do differently today.
Three original pitches: Submit three brief ideas for Wild Alaskan Company — one character-driven story, one culinary concept, and one concept of your choice. Each pitch can be approximately one paragraph. The focus should be on originality and what you notice rather than highly polished presentations.
Requirements
- 7+ years of professional experience in content development, documentary filmmaking, branded video, or a closely related creative field. Job titles are less important than a strong portfolio demonstrating your ability to develop ideas and deliver exceptional finished work.
- Experience analyzing creative performance data across organic and paid social media channels and using those insights to strengthen future content.
- A portfolio that includes at least one compelling, character-driven project that you personally developed from initial discovery through final production and delivery.
- Proven people-management experience, including responsibility for direct reports, performance reviews, coaching, professional development, and team growth. Experience limited to coordinating freelancers will not meet this requirement.
- Strong understanding of both outdoor and culinary storytelling. You should be comfortable working around commercial fishing vessels, working waterfronts, unpredictable weather, and outdoor environments while also understanding kitchens, chefs, food preparation, and what makes culinary content visually appealing. Direct experience in either industry is an advantage, but the ability to work confidently across both is essential.
- A strong understanding of long-form video platforms such as YouTube, including audience retention, viewership metrics, content programming, channel development, launch strategies, titles, thumbnails, and audience growth.
- Willingness and ability to travel approximately 30% of the time, with travel expected to increase during the summer months. Assignments may range from challenging production environments in Alaska to culinary shoots and test kitchens.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the complete video-production process, including research, story development, budgeting, crew selection, camera production, audio, editing, post-production, color, sound, and final delivery. You do not need to personally perform every production function, but you should understand each stage well enough to confidently lead and evaluate the work.
Who This Role Is Not For
This is not primarily an execution-only production position.
Candidates whose experience has mainly involved producing or editing ideas developed by other people may not be the right fit. Wild Alaskan Company already works with experienced production partners and is specifically looking for someone who can discover stories, originate concepts, develop a creative point of view, and provide the ideas that drive the work forward.
What to Include With Your Application
Professional Reel or Portfolio
A reel is required. Applicants should provide either a completed reel or links to three finished projects.
For each project, briefly explain your specific contribution, such as:

- Other significant responsibilities
The company wants to clearly understand which parts of each project were personally led or created by you.
