Axra is hiring a Senior Frontend Engineer to help shape the digital experience used by millions of people across the African diaspora.

You’ll collaborate closely with our product and design teams to create web experiences that are fast, polished, intuitive, and dependable.

In financial technology, trust matters, and the quality of every interaction plays an important role in building that trust.

This is a hands-on product engineering role with significant ownership. You’ll take responsibility for major areas of our web application and design system, contribute to key architectural decisions, and help establish stronger frontend engineering standards across the team.

What You’ll Do

  • Build, improve, and maintain Axra’s core web products, including the customer dashboard, onboarding experiences, and public-facing pages using React and TypeScript.
  • Take ownership of the Axra design system and collaborate with product designers to maintain consistent, high-quality reusable components.
  • Work closely with backend engineers to integrate REST and WebSocket APIs into smooth and reliable user experiences.
  • Help define important frontend technical decisions, including state management, testing approaches, application performance, and architecture.
  • Improve frontend performance through efficient loading strategies, code splitting, optimization, and other modern development practices.
  • Support and mentor junior engineers through code reviews, pair programming, technical discussions, and internal documentation.
  • Contribute to engineering standards and processes that make the frontend codebase easier to maintain and scale.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of professional experience developing production web applications, including 3+ years working extensively with React.
  • Advanced knowledge of TypeScript and the ability to use its type system effectively when designing reliable applications.
  • Strong product awareness and attention to detail, with the ability to identify usability or interface issues and suggest improvements.
  • Experience developing, scaling, or maintaining a component library or design system.
  • Solid understanding of frontend performance optimization, including Core Web Vitals, lazy loading, and code splitting.
  • Ability to work effectively in an asynchronous, remote-first environment.
  • Strong written communication and collaboration skills.

Nice to Have

  • Previous experience working in fintech, financial services, payments, or another highly regulated industry.
  • Familiarity with React Native, particularly within shared or closely integrated web and mobile codebases.
  • Experience working in a startup environment where engineers take ownership across multiple areas.
  • Open-source contributions, portfolio projects, or other publicly available technical work.

  • Salary: £75,000–£95,000, with compensation reviewed every six months.
