Video Editor at Planetscale

PlanetScale is seeking a talented and creative Video Editor to help shape and elevate its video production process.

In this role, you will collaborate with the team to produce and edit engaging YouTube videos, social media shorts, conference highlights, customer case studies, and product launch films.

You’ll have the creative freedom to explore and use any tools that enhance your work, including emerging technologies and innovative solutions.

What We’re Looking For

• A strong portfolio demonstrating professional video editing across multiple formats, including YouTube videos, short-form content, and podcasts.
• Excellent storytelling, pacing, and structural skills, with the ability to identify the right moments, remove unnecessary content, and maintain audience engagement.
• Proficiency in video editing, animation, and graphic design, with the ability to develop compelling narratives, incorporate engaging visuals, and create clean, expressive typography suitable for different screen sizes.
• Expertise in professional editing software such as Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, DaVinci Resolve, or Final Cut Pro.
• Hands-on experience with AI-powered tools for animation, editing, and video production, alongside a willingness to explore new creative possibilities.
• Ability to develop custom scripts and use AI to automate production tasks, including transcription, thumbnail concepts, and generating preliminary edits from large video collections.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to contribute creative ideas before production begins and respond efficiently to feedback.

What You’ll Be Editing

• YouTube Videos: Educational explainers, interviews, and other engaging content designed to capture and maintain audience attention.
• Short-Form and Vertical Videos: Social media clips optimized for various platforms and audiences.
• Conference Content: Full-length presentations from company events, along with shorter highlights for social media distribution.
• Product Launch Videos: High-quality promotional videos where timing, storytelling, and visual presentation are essential.
• Creative Assets and Motion Graphics: Thumbnails, title cards, typography, animations, and other visual elements that support video projects.

How You’ll Work

• Combine strong independent editing capabilities with an enthusiasm for using AI to improve production efficiency and content quality.
• Work closely with PlanetScale’s Marketing team to develop and execute creative video projects.
• Have access to the time, resources, and budget needed to experiment with emerging technologies and innovative production tools.

Bonus Qualifications

• Experience in software development or working with technology and engineering companies.
• Previous experience creating and editing technology-focused or developer-related content.
• Ownership of a personal YouTube channel or social media account that you have successfully grown.
• Familiarity with code-driven video production tools such as Remotion.
• Strong skills in creating compelling video thumbnails and attention-grabbing titles.
• Knowledge of sound design, audio editing, and professional mixing.
• Experience filming or directing original video content.
• Background in livestreaming or live event production.
