About the Role

ACLED is seeking an experienced Web Coordinator to oversee the daily operations, technical maintenance, performance, and continuous improvement of its main website and related web properties.

This is a hands-on technical position requiring direct work within the CMS, troubleshooting website issues, implementing improvements, and ensuring ACLED’s web platforms remain reliable, fast, secure, accessible, and well organized.

The Web Coordinator will also lead SEO strategy, oversee web analytics and reporting, manage web-related requests from teams across the organization, and coordinate various digital and website projects.

Key Responsibilities

Website Operations & Technical Maintenance

Manage the daily operation, reliability, and performance of ACLED’s Drupal-based website and associated web properties.

Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve technical problems, working with the development team when required. This includes bug fixes, module and plugin updates, security patches, and CMS configuration.

Carry out minor frontend improvements and fixes within Drupal’s theming and module environment.

Monitor website uptime, performance, and Core Web Vitals, proactively addressing issues before they significantly affect users.

Coordinate version control, staging environments, and deployment processes with the development team.

Maintain compliance with accessibility requirements, including WCAG standards, security protocols, and frontend performance best practices.

SEO Strategy & Implementation

Develop and maintain ACLED’s overall SEO strategy, covering keyword planning, website architecture, search visibility, and coordination with content and publications teams.

Conduct technical SEO audits, website health assessments, and competitor research to identify opportunities for improving organic search performance.

Guide and support the Digital Officer in ongoing SEO monitoring, technical optimization, and keyword tracking.

Analytics, Reporting & Stakeholder Coordination

Prepare regular website performance reports and respond to analytics requests from teams across the organization.

Manage analytics and reporting platforms such as Google Analytics and Looker while establishing meaningful metrics for measuring website engagement, usability, and content effectiveness.

Act as the primary contact for website-related requests from other departments, assessing priorities and coordinating their delivery.

Planning, Prioritization & Web Projects

Review and prioritize website feature requests, improvement proposals, technical issues, and bug reports.

Coordinate and contribute to web projects such as website redesigns, new digital tools, platform improvements, and content restructuring.

Work closely with teams including Data Science, Development, Analysis, and External Affairs to translate organizational requirements into effective web solutions.

Team Management

Directly supervise the Digital Officer, providing regular guidance, feedback, and professional development support.

Assist with the recruitment and onboarding of web team members when required.

Help colleagues throughout the organization use ACLED’s CMS and other web tools effectively.

Qualifications & Experience

Required

Candidates should possess a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Digital Media, Communications, or another relevant discipline, or an equivalent qualification.

Applicants should have at least three years of experience managing or coordinating a content-focused website, including practical technical responsibilities.

Strong hands-on experience with Drupal CMS is required, particularly in site building, configuration, module management, theming, and troubleshooting.

Candidates should also have strong working knowledge of PHP, together with a solid understanding of HTML, CSS, and modern web standards.

Experience developing and implementing SEO strategies is essential, including familiarity with tools such as Google Search Console, Semrush, Screaming Frog, or comparable platforms.

Applicants should have experience working with web analytics platforms such as Google Analytics and Looker.

Knowledge of website performance optimization, WCAG accessibility requirements, security best practices, Git version control, and deployment workflows is also required.

Strong organizational and prioritization skills are important, particularly the ability to coordinate multiple requests and stakeholders simultaneously.

Previous experience supervising or mentoring at least one team member is required.

Preferred Qualifications

Additional advantages include experience with JavaScript or frontend frameworks such as React, particularly for developing web-based tools.

Familiarity with website integrations involving platforms such as Salesforce and Mailchimp—including APIs, authentication, embedded forms, and tracking—is desirable.

Experience using ContentSquare, Hotjar, or similar tools for user-experience monitoring and testing would also be beneficial.

Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, cloud hosting environments, CDNs, CRM systems, and marketing automation platforms is preferred.

Experience working within a mission-driven, research-focused, or data-oriented organization would be an advantage.

Salary & Employment Details

The position offers an annual salary of $55,000–$60,000.

This is a fully remote, full-time position, with preference given to candidates located within time zones ranging from Central European Time (CET) to US Eastern Time.

The successful candidate is expected to start as soon as possible.
