ManTech is currently seeking a motivated and customer-focused AutoCAD Drafter to support its operations in Chesapeake, Virginia.

Although this position is classified as remote, the successful candidate must live within reasonable commuting distance of Chesapeake and be available for onsite work approximately once a month. Depending on the employee’s familiarity with the fleet and responsibilities, the position may eventually transition to a fully remote arrangement.

About the Position

The AutoCAD Drafter will provide technical drafting, design, modeling, and documentation support for complex assemblies, components, and engineering drawings.

The role focuses heavily on supporting Boat Alteration development, including the removal of obsolete systems and components and their replacement with updated systems.

The successful candidate will work closely with engineers, technicians, vendors, customers, and other ManTech personnel to develop accurate technical documentation and ensure that designs meet applicable engineering and defense standards.

Key Responsibilities

The AutoCAD Drafter will:

• Create detailed 2D drawings of complex parts, assemblies, and components using AutoCAD.
• Support Boat Alteration projects involving the replacement of outdated vessel systems and components.
• Develop 3D models and produce corresponding 2D engineering drawings.
• Create, maintain, and update technical drawing packages.
• Conduct measurements and document existing boat systems, hulls, mechanical components, and structural systems.
• Develop sketches, photographs, measurements, and other documentation to support design, prototype development, verification, and validation.
• Use tools such as calipers, gauges, tape measures, and other mechanical measuring equipment during field documentation activities.
• Work with vendors to identify commercially available components for integration into vessel systems.
• Gather relevant vendor information, including component costs and weight characteristics.
• Support quality-control activities by working with engineers and technicians to ensure that all information required to manufacture parts and assemblies is accurately documented.
• Independently research technical information needed to produce detailed drawings and designs.
• Ensure drawings comply with applicable engineering standards, including the Engineering Drawing Standards Guide (EDSG) and MIL-STD-31000.
• Collaborate with ManTech personnel and customer representatives during onsite boat inspections.
• Occasionally travel to customer facilities where vessels are located to document existing hull and system conditions.
• Work effectively with engineering, technical, and project teams throughout the design and development process.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must meet one of the following educational and experience requirements:

• Associate degree in a related discipline plus at least 2 years of relevant modeling or drafting experience; or
• High school diploma or GED plus at least 4 years of relevant modeling or drafting experience in place of the associate degree.

Candidates must also have:

• At least 2 years of experience designing with AutoCAD or comparable 3D modeling software such as SolidWorks or Inventor.
• The ability and willingness to learn additional engineering and design software platforms.
• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
• The ability to work effectively as part of a team.
• The ability to follow direction, receive constructive feedback, and incorporate guidance into their work.

Preferred Qualifications

The following qualifications are considered advantageous:

• Strong knowledge of MIL-STD-31000 and Department of Defense and industry engineering documentation and design standards.
• Demonstrated expertise in creating and reviewing technical engineering drawings.
• Strong technical, written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
• A collaborative approach to working with engineers, technicians, and other team members.
• A proactive and inquisitive mindset, including the willingness to ask experienced team members questions and learn established processes.

Security Requirements

Applicants must:

• Be U.S. citizens.
• Hold an active Secret security clearance.

This requirement is essential because of the defense-related nature of the work involved.

Work & Physical Requirements

The position generally requires the employee to work at a computer for approximately 40 hours per week, which can be performed from home.

Some weeks may also require a local half-day visit to conduct boat inspections or documentation activities.

Accessing vessels may involve climbing ladders, so candidates must be able to safely perform these activities when required.

Compensation

The projected annual compensation range is:

$55,700 – $93,600 per year
